Couple's love cemented in the sand
Bridegroom Kirk Edgeler had no hesitation about where he wanted to tie the knot, although it was a bit of a mission getting approval.
It all went to plan, however, when he placed the ring on wife Gena's finger on Caroline Bay.
The couple were married on the sand in front of a seated crowd on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Edgeler said there was some hesitation when he initially approached the Timaru District Council for permission to get hitched in the sand.
"They were a bit concerned at first."
He talked the proposal through with the council, including preparing a traffic flow plan, and got the green light.
Caroline Bay holds some special memories for the Temuka man.
His father, Gordon Edgeler, who died in 2000, co-ordinated fireworks displays at Caroline Bay and the family spent numerous summers there.
The family sent his ashes skywards with the fireworks in the 2000 New Year's Eve display.
"I'm surprised more people don't get married there because it's such a beautiful place; I have a lifelong connection to the Bay."
Mrs Edgeler's family missed the wedding but will have the opportunity to see the couple tie the knot again next year. "We plan to go back to the Philippines where my wife's family will be able to join in the celebration."
