Fog delays Timaru man's return
Timaru man Rikki Willis is among Christmas travellers held up in Wellington today.
Airlines are struggling to get holiday travel plans back on schedule after fog disrupted flights at Wellington airport yesterday.
Air New Zealand has put extra services into its schedule because of a backlog of passengers and Jetstar has also put more flights on.
Mr Willis was scheduled to fly from Wellington to Timaru at 6pm yesterday to spend Christmas and New Year with family and friends here.
But he received the bad news via text message from his sister-in-law just as he arrived at the terminal.
''My sister-in-law texted me with news the cancellation had been put up on the website.''
Mr Willis contacted the Air New Zealand call centre and his flight was rescheduled for 11am tomorrow. He said seats on earlier flights were limited.
''I just chose to stick with the Christmas morning flight. I watched the fog roll in on Wellington about 1pm yesterday and had a feeling my flight was going to be cancelled.
''It's just a freak of nature; you can't get angry about the weather and the staff I dealt with were pretty cool.''
