Emergency officials pick up stranded trampers
Emergency officials yesterday picked up four trampers who were stranded by heavy rain and high water in the Dobson Valley area.
An Omarama man and a former resident, now living in Australia, tried to walk out but then decided to wait out the water at a hut, said Senior Constable Brent Swanson of Tekapo police.
Rescuers also encountered a Wanaka couple who were stranded on a shingle bank and had camped out waiting for the rough weather to pass.
