Timaru third on list for highest-paying jobs
Searching for a high-paying job? Your best chances could be in Wellington, Auckland - and Timaru.
Timaru boasted the third-highest-paying job listings in the country for the last quarter of 2012, Trade Me data shows. The average pay for Timaru jobs listed during that period was $60,626.
Jobs in Wellington averaged the highest income, $74,759, closely followed by Auckland City, $73,410.
Whangarei ($59,318) and New Plymouth ($57,741) rounded out the top five.
The pay information was taken from job listings for fulltime roles advertised on the popular website during October-December 2012.
Timaru now has several openings in the "six-figure jobs" category, including: five openings for an anaesthetist, physicians and surgeons with the South Canterbury District Health Board, a contract manager for roading maintenance and construction projects, and a sales and export manager with Functional Whole Foods New Zealand.
Nationwide, the highest paid advertised professions were information technology (IT) consultants ($138,500), IT architects ($133,928), IT project managers ($123,896), doctors and specialists ($121,442), and finance managers and controllers ($121,442).
Staffing in the latest BNZ-Business NZ performance of services index (PSI), for December, remained at 51.6 points from November, Fairfax NZ reports.
The BNZ also said yesterday wider results taken from a variety of job indicators were "encouraging", despite the nation's official unemployment rate worsening to 7.3 per cent late last year.
