A woman has admitted biting a section of ear off another woman during an altercation last year.

Roxanne Sharona Tainui, 23, a waitress of Christchurch, pleaded guilty in the Timaru District Court yesterday to assault with intent to injure.

On Saturday, September 1, Tainui had been at her residence at the time, in James St, Timaru. An argument started with another woman whom she then attempted to strangle and bit off a small section of her ear.

The victim required medical attention.

Judge Joanna Maze convicted Tainui and remanded her on bail to April 29 for sentencing.

Chrystal-Maree Riach, 29, of Timaru; possession of cannabis utensils, making a false statement, breach of community work - convicted and remanded on bail to May 9 for sentencing.
