A Timaru man faces two charges for a series of arsons that began more than a week ago.
The man, aged 19, was arrested on Saturday morning after tip-offs from the public.
He faced two charges of wilful damage by fire, Constable Kris Howes said. The two charges relate to a vegetation fire outside Harvey Norman on Evans St and a vegetation fire at a Tyne St address on January 27.
Police are also investigating two scrub fires at Tweedy Park on January 27 and a fire that consumed tussock and toetoe at Highfield Golf Club on January 25.
Mr Howes said it was likely all the incidents were connected.
"There weren't huge amounts of damage but fires have the potential to spread in this climate." The man was bailed with conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Timaru District Court on Friday.
