House market 'looking strong' in Geraldine
Geraldine is home to some of South Canterbury's most expensive realty.
Of the most expensive properties sold in the district last year, three are in the Geraldine Downs, latest Property IQ figures show.
A property on Pages Rd, Marchwiel, took the title of the most expensive property sold in the district, selling for $820,000.
It was followed closely by two Geraldine Downs properties - one on Waitui Dr, which sold for $775,000, and another on Ribbonwood Rd, which went for $750,000.
A property on Pye Rd, in the Geraldine Downs, took out eighth spot, selling for $675,000.
Harcourts Geraldine manager Barbara Hopa said it appeared to be locals who were buying up, as well as people moving to the area from Christchurch and Auckland.
She said the market was "looking strong" in Geraldine and the office had been particularly busy since staff returned to work on January 7.
"We've found it's been extremely busy. Just all of a sudden there has just been an upsurge of consultations."
She said there was no sign of the business slowing down.
"I can see the market in Geraldine will remain strong - it's great. I think things are moving along out here."
The cheapest house sold in the district was on Orari Station Rd, Orari, which sold for $62,000.
It was followed by four Waimate properties, which sold for between $65,000 and $73,000.
