A 30-metre poplar tree was felled on Friday after flooding of the Opihi River undermined its stability.

The tree threatened the road on the bridge above the river so Sicon Contracting workers felled the tree, which would be used for firewood.

Further work was undertaken to clear wood away from around the bridge pylons to avoid a buildup of debris.
