Sixteen months after Timaru businessman Allan Hubbard's death, a June date has been set for the trial of the man charged with causing the car crash which took Mr Hubbard's life.

The three-day hearing, starting on June 4, will be heard in the Timaru District Court.

Mr Hubbard died as a result of a crash on State Highway 1 at Hilderthorpe, 8 kilometres north of Oamaru, on September 2, 2011.

Andy Earl, 41, of Mosgiel, has pleaded not guilty to charges of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing injury to Mr Hubbard's wife, Jean.

The hearing had been set down for December but police sought an adjournment.

At the time, Oamaru Detective Sergeant Dan Keno said prosecution and police needed more time to complete inquiries. A prosecution review had identified "a couple of matters" that needed looking into.

Earl was charged in February last year.
