Governor-General in first Sth Canty visit
The Governor-General will visit South Canterbury for the first time tomorrow.
Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae are visiting South Canterbury and North Otago this week beginning with a visit to Arowhenua Marae tomorrow morning before heading to Te Ana Ngai Tahu Rock Art Visitor Centre.
At 1.30pm at South Pacific Sera at Seadown the couple will launch the Woodhouse Scholarship Programme, which will be open to young South Canterbury students studying biosciences at a South Island university.
Tomorrow night the couple will host a South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce reception at Aoraki Polytechnic in Timaru and then at 6.30am on Thursday morning Sir Jerry will launch the Central South Island Charity Bike Ride.
On Thursday morning he will visit New Zealand Light Leathers while his wife will host a morning tea to celebrate local women in the community.
In the afternoon they are off to Waimate to visit the Bushtown Heritage Site where Sir Jerry will officially open the Bill O'Donnell Sawmill before hosting a dinner for local government leaders.
On Friday they move onto Oamaru and on Saturday they will enjoy the New Zealand Rowing Championships.
