Noise complaints common problem
Noise complaints are responsible for around 75 per cent of the complaints environmental health staff have to deal with throughout the Timaru district.
The council's works programme to the end of December, shows 1368 environmental health-related complaints or service requests were received in the 12 months to the end of June.
Of those, 1021 related to noise, and after hours staff dealt with them.
Excluding noise complaints, the other most common type of complaint related to health nuisances, food-related concerns and disease investigations.
All complaints were responded to, but not necessarily resolved, within 20 working days, while urgent complaints were responded to within five days, and emergency complaints involving danger to people, within two hours.
It was good news as to the state of the district's food premises.
Staff inspected 67 per cent of the outlets during the year and all were found to be 100 per cent compliant with the council's requirements.
Pre-opening inspections were also carried out on 63 new food outlets.
