A Dunedin deputy principal has been appointed as the new principal of Craighead Diocesan School.

The board of trustees said yesterday Belinda Graham, who is the assistant principal at Kavanagh College, would take up the appointment at the beginning of term 2 on May 6.

Board chairman Fraser McKenzie said Ms Graham was chosen from a strong field of applicants.

"The school looks forward to a new phase of development and growth under her leadership."

The appointment follows the sudden resignation of Craighead Diocesan principal Francesca Black in September. She left shortly after. Mrs Black had been in the role for more than four years.

Ms Graham was not available for comment yesterday.
