The Maize Maze, 1.4 hectares of baffling twists and turns, opens this weekend with all proceeds going to Cancer Society South Canterbury.

Farmer Rory Foley set it up after running a similar project in the North Island last year.

And it gets spooky on March 1 and 2 with R16 horror nights planned for anyone daring enough to tackle the maze after dark. "You are probably going to get lost for 30 minutes. I haven't had people get completely lost," he said.

He said punters can expect something scary at the night-time events.

The maze is open to families during the day from this weekend and is located at the north end of Hannaton Rd.
