SPOILT FOR CHOICE: Anne Prentice, left, and Barbara Parker prepare for the Save The Children annual Dress Shop fundraiser hosted at Timaru Town & Country Club.

Something old and something new is in store for bargain hunters at Timaru's annual Dress Shop sale.

The popular event, hosted by Save the Children Fund, will return today and tomorrow, marking 53 years since it started.

However, organisers have had to swap their usual location of St Mary's Church hall for the Timaru Town & Country Club on Douglas St.

The church hall was closed last February after it failed to meet earthquake standards, but Dress Shop organisers were allowed to continue their sale there, making the event the last to have used the hall.

Racks of second-hand clothes line the entrance room of the Timaru Town & Country Club, along with books, shoes and linen, among other items. A room of high-end labelled clothing has also been set up.

Last year's event raised $8000. All money raised goes to worthy causes, including world-wide relief work. Doors open today from 9.30am until 4.30pm and tomorrow from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
