Pupils aid pool upgrade
Pupils at Winchester Rural School are helping to raise the $35,000 to reline the school pool.
Principal Andrena Norrish said the children had embraced the challenge to raise $20 each through odd jobs at home, though it was not compulsory. The heated pool will be tiled as the old liner has worn out. It is expected to be completed by summer.
Ms Norrish said it was important to retain the pool and maintain it so children could learn to swim and feel confident in water. It was also an asset for the wider community.
The school roll has increased from an average of 126 to 139 this year through the growth in dairying in the district.
