Brien to stand again
The first candidate for October's Timaru District Council election has come forward.
A senior business lecturer at Lincoln University, Anthony Raymond Brien, is having a second attempt at a seat in the Timaru ward, after he stood unsuccessfully at the 2010 election.
Mr Brien was nominated by Sidney George McAuley and seconded by George Robert Timaru Rhodes.
Standing for the South Canterbury District Health Board is sitting member Terrence John Kennedy. Mr Kennedy, a long serving Timaru district councillor, has opted not to stand for council at the October elections.
Nominating him for the health board position was Denise Mary Fitzgerald, seconded by Elizabeth Margaret Phillipps. Mr Kennedy's is the second health board nomination to be received, after that of board deputy chairman Ron Luxton.
