South Canterbury woman Afsaneh Howey has taken top honours at an international speech contest.
Mrs Howey has been a member of the local Kotuku Communication ITC Club for four years.
This year she won the local and national cosmopolitan speech contests and has now won the international cosmopolitan division for speakers where English is not their first language.
Her speech in Hawaii was titled a "Change of Heart" with a theme of consistency in reaching racial harmony.
