Voices ring out for good cause
St John has plenty to sing about following another successful fundraising event by The Rhyth-Mix Singers at Timaru's Savage Club Hall. The singers took to the stage on Friday and Saturday nights in a bid to raise money for St John.
Musical director Rosie Staite said the annual fundraiser, which was into its sixth year, had always been a great success. She said that although it was not yet known how much had been raised from the performances, the chosen charities had always received a significant donation.
The choir, which has 40 members, had enjoyed providing the fundraising concerts, she said.
"We have a lot of fun. One of the main things is we are a very supportive group of one another.
"We are there to have fun and to make really good music; and the bonus of the concerts is so we can also help others."
Money raised from the concerts in other years has gone to the Cancer Society, Plunket, the Heart Foundation, Pike River families, children of east Christchurch and Family Works.
The Rhyth-Mix Singers will perform again on August 24 with the New Zealand Male Choir at the Sacred Heart Basilica.
