A $13,000 donation from Roundhill Ski Area will be a "huge help" to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
The money was raised by taking 50 per cent of the ski area's ticket sales on August 24.
Rescue helicopter service spokeswoman Liz Knight said it was an "absolutely fantastic" and unexpectedly large donation for them to receive.
Ski area manager Simon Murrell said the rescue helicopter was "a fantastic service" and they were "happy to support it".
He said the geographical challenges of their mountain location meant they often had to rely on the service and decided to help it out by making the donation.
Mr Murrell said it was a busy day on Saturday and a number of people told him they made the trip especially to support the cause.
He said it was the first fundraising event he could remember in the five years he had been there.
The rescue helicopter has made 25 trips to Mt Hutt and six to Roundhill during this ski season.
