High country a winter wonderland
Fresh snow boost for ski fieldsESTHER ASHBY-COVENTRY
Snow fell overnight, leaving Tekapo and Fairlie waking up to a winter wonderland this morning.
It started snowing about 9.30pm last night and stopped about 1am, dusting the hills surrounding Twizel but not the township.
The snow in Tekapo melted on the roads this morning but the lingering snow on trees and mountains added to the scenic beauty of the area, amazing tourists and visitors.
Ski fields benefited from the dump, with Roundhill ski field adding 25cm to its snow level and Mt Dobson ski field an extra 20cm.
The forecast is for sunny weather over the weekend for Tekapo and Twizel, with temperatures at a high of about 10 degrees Celsius and a low overnight of minus 9 degrees in Fairlie on Friday.
