Tekapo pumped for giant slide
The world's largest inflatable water slide is slipping its way over to Tekapo Springs in time for the summer.
General manager Cathy Hemsworth said its brand new Trippo Slide would be unveiled on November 1, in time for the busy summer season.
"It's the first order of it outside of the United States.
"We heard about it through contacts, and it just seemed like a no-brainer," she said.
"Who doesn't like water slides? This will be a fantastic addition to our complex."
The oversized inflatable water slide, with three slide chutes, is 11 metres high and 53 metres long.
Hemsworth would not comment on how much it cost, citing commercial sensitivity.
"The thing is massive. We might need to remove some of the barriers around Tekapo Springs' skating rink to ensure it fits easily and people can access it safely," she said.
"The staff are so excited about this, they all want to have first go on it."
Hemsworth said the The Trippo Slide had not even been officially launched on the market yet.
The worldwide launch will be at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) show in Orlando, Florida in mid-November - the world's largest amusement exhibition.
"The slide will be winging its way in October. This will give us a couple or so weeks to set everything up. We can't wait."
Ms Hemsworth said the slide would be a "summer addition" to the complex, and would go into storage during the winter months
