Take it as read: quiz is popular
When it began four years ago, the Timaru Reading Association's book quiz welcomed 13 teams.
This year 30 teams filled Bluestone School hall to contest first place.
"The popularity is certainly growing," president Kerri Jopp said. "It's great to give children who love reading the opportunity to compete."
Librarian Gillian Ross echoed those sentiments: "It's something competitive for readers to be part of. Not all of them are involved in sports teams and it's nice for them to work in teams together."
The field was split into two divisions, one for years 5 and 6, and the other for years 7 and 8.
The questions were concocted by the association, and covered a range of topics from picture books to classic novels.
The Bluestone team came first in the years 7 and 8 section, while Grantlea Downs won the years 5 and 6 section.
