Another night without power
Fifty customers in South Canterbury will spend a second night without electricity.
Alpine Energy chief executive Andrew Tombs said 450 customers had been reconnected today after 500 lost power during strong northwesterly winds yesterday morning.
Those expected to be without power tonight were in Orari, Kakahu and Pleasant Valley.
Mr Tombs said crews would not get all power in the district reconnected before they had completed their mandatory hours.
Network Waitaki crews were on stand by and Alpine Energy would persevere tomorrow, he said.
Winds up to 100 kmh hit the region yesterday morning, downing trees and knocking out power lines.
