Gas bottle leak leaves three with burns
Fire safety officer Kevin Collins has warned people to check their gas bottles after a leak from one at a Temuka address left three people with minor burns.
Mr Collins said the weekend incident was a timely reminder for people to get their gas bottles checked as it is the beginning of barbecue season.
"I understand they were attempting to get a barbecue going, the gas leaked and they were caught in the flash," Mr Collins said.
He said he wasn't exactly sure what caused the leak in this situation, but said it was common for people not to properly check the connection between the bottle and the barbecue.
"You need to spray the connection with a soapy solution and if there's a leak it will bubble. I suspect most people don't do that," Mr Collins said.
"People also need to check their bottles carefully, and if there is any doubt get them checked by a professional."
