Power has been restored after an outage forced some Stafford St shops to stop trading temporarily this afternoon.
Lights in central Timaru went out about 2pm. Some traffic lights in the central area were affected and the Herald understands some shops at the north end of Stafford St closed because of the cut.
A Timaru Herald Facebook user reported the power extended to Church St, and a shopper in Countdown said although the lights were out, Eftpos had still been working while she was there.
The Alpine Energy faults register indicated a feeder on Le Cren St had been affected by the cut, but listed the cause of the outage as "unknown".
Power returned just after 3pm - about an hour earlier than the initial estimate of 4.30pm.
