Good weather news for weekend
The long weekend looks set to come packaged with good weather for South Cantabrians, but not before some more wind and rain.
MetService is warning another potentially damaging spell of severe gales and heavy rain could hit Canterbury tomorrow.
An area of low pressure is expected to deepen over the Tasman Sea today before passing New Zealand tomorrow. Northwest gales are expected to develop in the eastern parts of the South Island tomorrow morning, and will likely carry through to Friday, with the potential for damaging gusts in parts of Canterbury.
At this stage there is some uncertainty with regards to the position of the low and the possible extent of the heaviest rain, but MetService said heavy wind gusts were more likely to affect inland and exposed areas.
However Labour Weekend is looking good for South Canterbury, according to MetService, which is predicting dry weather with a north-westerly wind flow and an average high of 18 degrees Celcius over the three days.
