Picton keen on hydroslide
The former Century Pool hydroslide has been redesigned by a private owner in Picton at a cost of about $200,000 and passed its first hurdle for a new location.
Terry Brown's family trust bought the 79-metre slide for $10,000 in September and a public meeting was held on Tuesday about placing it going into the sea along the Picton coastline.
"Most people were in favour of it, just a few old people weren't," he said.
He said all the questions raised at the meeting were answered and now it was open to public debate and consultation. Submissions close on November 12.
Feeling confident, Mr Brown had also bought 20 waterbikes and 20 zorb balls to make the area a fun park destination.
The Marlborough District Council has been good to work with and offered a few sites for the park, Mr Brown said.
The hydroslide's stairwell will be dismantled at the Timaru pool next week and Mr Brown hopes to have it in place and ready for public use by Christmas.
