Movember Ti-mo-ru nears $10,000 target
Timaru's Movember campaign is aiming to raise $10,000 this year.
Richard Brown, administrator of the campaign fundraising network, Ti-mo-ru, says $4175 has been raised to date, with about $3000 expected when the group closes the Royal Arcade tomorrow night for its gala party finale.
The rest would come from sponsorship and donations, he said.
The community effort aims to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, including mental health and prostate cancer, with promotions during November.
Mr Brown said the mobile man cave, built by volunteers as a promotional device, had made a difference to this year's campaign. The man cave was more about awareness than raising money, because it has gone to events we wouldn't normally go to.
"We're accessing a different group of people and they've all been supportive. The man cave has been about chilling out and asking questions."
Tomorrow night's ticket entry gala party will see the Royal Arcade closed off between 6pm and 2am. Mr Brown said organisers had worked with council, emergency services and retailers to secure the event.
He said the group would meet next month for a debrief and to talk about next year's event.
