Festival a hit with children
Organisers are hailing the 11th annual Festival of Roses a blooming success.
With around 7500 visitors, and slightly fewer stalls, numbers were down on last year.
However, more than 500 children entered Floral Fantasy, the children's creative competition - the most entries ever received.
Timaru retailers also made the most of the festival, with more than 50 entries this year in the shop window competition, up significantly on last year, according to festival chairwoman Jan Chambers.
"It was really good to see the public getting behind the event."
Last year the festival raised $8000 for Hospice South Canterbury. The committee will not know how much money will be donated this year until costs are paid.
