Timaru girl grabbed from bike
Police searching for a man who abducted a girl as she rode her bicycle in Washdyke last night have released a description of the alleged offender.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill said the man was described as a male Caucasian, of dark complexion, aged in his twenties, approximately 174cm (5ft 8in) tall, clean-shaven, with dark hair and of solid build.
He was wearing a cap, a white hoodie with a grey triangular pattern and maroon jeans.
Police said the offender approached the 13-year-old girl, who was cycling along SH8 near Sir Basil Arthur Park at 8pm. The man grabbed the girl off her bicycle and dragged her across a fence into a bush area.
A witness from a nearby address went to the girl's rescue and the offender ran off. She was treated by ambulance staff for cuts and bruising and is now recovering at home.
Police dogs searched the area but failed to locate the offender. However, a vehicle parked nearby was recovered by police.
Ms Neill said the victim provided police with a ''very good'' initial account of what happened and had been interviewed further today.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of Sir Basil Arthur Park between 7.45pm and 8.20pm last night, or who has information relating to the incident is encouraged to contact police on 6879808.
