Fashion showcase pops into town
Fresh from NYALEXIA JOHNSTON
A pop up fashion show has been added to Timaru's calendar of events in the lead-up to Christmas.
Local businesswomen Denise Whyte, Megan Dooley and Barb Kelly are behind the concept, which will include the latest season's styles.
Mrs Whyte, a hat and hair designer, will also treat the public to a special segment featuring her collections recently displayed in New York. Her work took centre stage at New York's Couture Fashion Week in September.
"A lot of people have asked to see what we did in New York, as there were so many people involved in getting it there. It's a great opportunity for people to see it."
The upcoming Timaru show, called Off Site Fashion, will take place in the old army hall on Barnard St on Friday. Doors will open at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.
Mrs Whyte said all money raised from the event will be given to South Canterbury Women's Refuge and the Timaru Boys' High School rowing team.
"It would be great to raise a couple of thousand dollars. I think that's what they've done with this type of event before."
Mrs Whyte said the show aimed to provide the public with something new.
"It's like a pop up fashion show really - it comes in and happens. It's something a wee bit different."
There are at least eight Timaru retailers involved in the event, including hair and makeup artists.
