Not a lot is known about the now defunct Timaru Harmonica Band.

Timaru man Jim Charteris was in the band for a few years.

He has some memories and some memorabilia but he is eager to find out more.

To ensure the band isn't completely lost to history, Mr Charteris is planning to put together as much as he can and donate the information, photos and memorabilia to the South Canterbury Museum.

"If we don't do this now, people won't remember. Hopefully we can jog people's minds," he said.

Mr Charteris was in the band for a few years while still at school.

He has vivid memories of practice sessions in band rooms on the corner of Theodosia and Church streets but he's not sure of the band's origins or when it ceased to exist.

In its heyday there were upwards of 20 members in the band.

They played regularly outside the hospital and were a Christmas feature around various Timaru events.

If anybody has any information, phone Jim on 688 1686 or email jimcjudyc@gmail.com.
