Josie Bamber likes ballet and cupcakes, so she wrote about them, scooping the Ursula Moray Williams Creative Writing Competition Year 1 to 3 prize.

The presentation of winners was held at the Timaru District Library on Friday.

The Bluestone School pupil used her two favourite subjects in her story The Magical Cupcake. Her idea was based on a ballerina and bakery party she had for her birthday in February.

"We dressed up as ballerinas or wore an apron and decorated cupcakes," she said.

The winning story includes a fairy, magical dust and a special recipe. Josie said she enjoys reading and her favourite genre is spy books, particularly the EJ12 girl hero series.
