Witnesses sought to burning of car
Police are appealing for witnesses after a stolen utility vehicle was found burnt out near Otaio.
The red and silver Mitsubishi was stolen from White Horse Motors in Waimate overnight on December 8 and 9, Sunday night, Monday morning.
While parked at the south end of the Otaio passing lanes, the battery was removed before the alleged arson took place at 6am on Monday.
Acting Sergeant Hamish Caird said those responsible possibly looked like they were working on the stolen vehicle.
The offenders are believed to have then travelled south in a fawn Mitsubishi Mirage, registration NS5189, which was involved in a petrol drive-off in Oamaru two hours later.
"Given the time, I am certain that someone would have seen them [at Otaio] and any description of the offenders would be greatly appreciated."
