Screaming girls lined the stage at Christmas on the Bay, but it was not just carols they were wanting to hear.

The girls were hanging out to see Moorhouse, a four-piece boy band, which shot to fame after appearing on the first New Zealand series of The X Factor.

Jason Aileone, Brock Ashby, Rory McKenna and Marley Sola Wilcox-Nanai make up the band.

They were among the many acts who took to the stage for the popular Christmas on the Bay concert on Saturday night.

Rain was not enough to deter people from the event. Instead, many came armed with jackets and umbrellas.

The event is into its fifth year. It is regularly supported by New Zealand entertainer Jackie Clarke and local singers, who form the group In Harmony for the occasion.

This year Smurfs, Elmo and the Cookie Monster also joined in the fun.

Musical director and event co-ordinator Di Cleverley said despite the "disastrous" weather the event was a great success.
