Vandals left a trail of damage across Twizel at the weekend.

Constable Joe Rush said he had been rushed off his feet trying to keep up with the many reports of destruction.

"We've had trees on Glen Lyon Rd and Mackenzie Drive damaged by someone - brand new trees," he said.

"Palings were pulled off fences along Godley St, there's been a window smashed and vandalism to the Twizel youth centre, some rubbish bins at the Twizel skatepark damaged, and a green and white flag was stolen from an address in Godley St.

"It's pretty appalling what happens around Christmas and New Year time. People put in good work [particularly] planting trees and then they get damaged."

Anyone with information relating to the offences can contact Twizel police on 03 435 0719.
