Car gets into a jam with berries
An iconic display of huge strawberries in a historic cart - a feature for many years at Butler's Berry Farm on State Highway 1 near Waimate - has sustained some damage but will rise again.
Donald Butler said the display was damaged last Friday morning when a motorist (and long-time customer) apparently had difficulty stopping her vehicle as she turned into the driveway.
Mr Butler's first concern was the wellbeing of the driver.
"She was fine and the display can be mended," he said.
The giant strawberries, originally made from papier mache, have latterly been refurbished with fibreglass and paint. The cart had some damage but, Mr Butler said, it could also be mended.
"It was a blessing no-one was injured," he said.
