Harbour comes alive with regatta
Oamaru's Harbour is set to take on a totally nautical appearance on Sunday with the running of the 2014 Oamaru Harbour Regatta.
The event, which is organised by the Friendly Bay Boat Society, offers an entertaining programme of events including Seagull outboard motor races, sailing and rowing races and Scott's Own Sea Scouts Cutters, will kick off at 1pm.
Friendly Bay Boat Society secretary Mike Harris said the events are always popular and registration for competitor entries can be made on the day.
"We also offer a range of on-shore entertainment, including a sandcastle competition and boat displays, plus the PortFM Birdman competition," he said.
Running simultaneously with these events will be the North Otago Yacht Club's Terra Nova Trophy Race.
This handicap event is run over two days in the outer harbour and is open to boats of all shapes and styles providing they are fitted with sails.
