Raw milk goes on sale
Timaru will get its own outlet for raw milk on February 17.
Marketed under the name of Village Milk, the outlet will be located at Stu and Andrea Weir's Timaru dairy farm in Fairview Rd.
Mr and Mrs Weir had long been interested in raw milk and were quick to open a Village Milk operation.
"Raw milk is unpasteurised and requires a substantial amount of preparation before milking to ensure the milk is clean and safe," Mr Weir said.
"The raw milk will be filtered and refrigerated and customers can fill their glass bottles from the Italian automatic dispenser at the farm gate.
"Glass bottles are a bit of nostalgia for New Zealanders."
Village Milk managing director Richard Houston said raw milk attracted a variety of people.
"The pilot at Golden Bay led to inquiries from farmers and consumers throughout the country," he said.
