Families come out for sun, fun
The sun shone and the salmon sizzled at the tenth Twizel Salmon and Wine Festival on Saturday.
The event was held at the market square.
"It was an excellent day and even better than last year. There were 2000 people or more this year," convenor Jeanette Van Gelder said. "The weather put it on again and the square was covered with families enjoying the bands.
"It was a relaxing and beautiful day and everyone behaved."
The ANZ Bank ATM in the square stopped working, but the community came together to solve the problem. "The Four Square was giving out cash and the ANZ Bank did a deal with the Top Hutt [bar] so they were giving out cash."
Constable Joe Rush said the crowd was well behaved, with only one disorderly event, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The event began in 2005 at the Twizel Events Centre as a community fundraising initiative.
A highlight of the day was the Twizel Salmon Sizzle; a barbecue cook-off.
