Interest in big box retail site yet to sign

BIG PLANS: South Canterbury consortium Hilton Nominees plans a major retail shopping centre on the main drag, just off Hilton Highway.

A South Canterbury consortium wanting to turn a 3-hectare site on Hilton Highway into a big box retail development has expressions of interest but no signatures.

Hilton Nominees bought the site, which previously belonged to Seedlands, about four years ago.

Chairman Ken Buckingham said anchor tenants were looking at the site but nothing was in writing.

"We have had individual expressions of interest but no-one has signed yet."

The site plan shows up to 27 premises spread over 13,400 square metres of retail outlets and offices with units ranging from 75 to 6800sqm.

The site is zoned light industrial with licensed bars, restaurants and takeaway outlets allowed, according to the district plan.

Shops selling furniture, garden supplies, antiques, second-hand goods, vehicles, boats, caravans, machinery, floor coverings, veterinary and farm supplies are also allowed under the district plan.
