A Temuka woman was woken in the early hours of yesterday morning when she heard someone on her front porch, police say.
She described the culprit as a tall, slim male, who was wearing a white hoodie, dark trousers and dark backpack.
The woman was not harmed.
It is the second recent incident of its kind for the small South Canterbury town.
Another woman was attacked in her Temuka home on October 13 last year.
The intruder, a man, allegedly broke into the woman's Birkett St house at 12.15am, assaulting her before fleeing.
A similar incident was also reported in Timaru on November 1.
In that case, a woman woke to find a man sitting on her bed.
The man, who was not known to the woman, had entered the house through an unlocked ranch slider door.
The woman challenged the man before he fled.
She was not harmed in the incident, but was left shaken by the ordeal.
The woman was unable to provide a description of the man to police.
