Kids cancer scam worry
There have been no reports of child cancer scammers in Timaru.
In other parts of the country members of the public have been targeted by people falsely claiming to be collecting money for the Child Cancer Foundation.
The caller is reported to have a foreign accent and is calling from a call centre type environment as there are other voices in the background.
Child Cancer Foundation (CCF) said it does not use call centres and has no cold call collecting in place.
Canterbury West Coast Division chairman Shane Dowling said he hoped the scam did not affect ongoing donations to the cause.
The CCF annual street appeal is held in March and will be well publicised beforehand with information available on what authentic collectors will wear and their identity badges.
