A police bid to use Facebook to track down those responsible for a soap attack on the piazza fountain has come up short.
Senior Sergeant Randel Tikitiki said Facebook posts had not been enough to help police identify the culprits.
The Timaru District Council's after-hours number was called early on Sunday after a contractor discovered the fountain had been filled with detergent.
Mr Tikitiki said police had talked to people about foam in the fountain, but had no solid leads.
A spate of soap attacks on Timaru fountains in 2013 cost $1750.
