A health warning on the Waihi River has been lifted.

Community and Public Health lifted the warning late yesterday after levels of the potentially toxic algae benthic cyanobacteria, decreased at the Geraldine and Winchester bridge sites.

South Canterbury medical officer of health Dr Daniel Williams said the amount of algae was now below the levels that are of concern to public health.
