A man has denied kidnapping a young girl as she rode her bicycle in Washdyke.
Blaine Ross Hughes, 20, a timber processing operator of no fixed abode, appeared in the Timaru District Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, possession of a firearm, theft, burglary, injuring with intent to injure, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon and resisting arrest.
He has been remanded in custody until April 28 for case review.
Hughes was arrested after a man allegedly grabbed a young girl off her bicycle and dragged her across a fence into a bush.
A witness went to the girl's aid and the alleged offender ran off.
The incident happened on State Highway 8, near Sir Basil Arthur Park, at 8pm on December 3.
