Building consents rise up a level
Building consents in the Timaru district have increased by 7.8 per cent in the past year.
In 2013, there were 1375 new building consents issued, compared with 1275 in 2012.
Of the 1375 consents issued in 2013, 193 were for new residential dwellings and 158 for new commercial dwellings. This is compared with 179 new dwelling consents in 2012 and 158 new commercial consents.
According to a Timaru District Council report, 95 per cent of consents were processed within the 20-day statutory time frame.
"Reasons for consents not being processed within statutory time- frames were due to an increase in building consent numbers and a transition with new staff."
The average processing time was 11.8 days, the report stated.
