More than 10,000 merino ewes were yarded at the Tekapo ewe sale yesterday.

Stock from Streamlands Station came to the sale the old-fashioned way - driven on the hoof to the sale centre, attended by shepherds and dogs.

Yesterday's sale also included 25 merino rams.

A sale of about 4000 merino ewes was held earlier in the day at Omarama.

A report on the sale will be published in the Timaru Herald tomorrow.
