It was all about the children at Caroline Bay yesterday.
The South Canterbury Children's Day at Caroline Bay was a hit with the little people, with more than 1000 people coming to enjoy the festivities, South Canterbury Children's Day committee secretary Russell Hendry said.
Children's Day was originally established in New Zealand by the Ministry of Social Development as a nationwide event. However, over the years local groups have taken it up themselves and organised events having been a regular feature in Timaru for more than a decade.
"It was brilliant, probably the best one we have had," Mr Hendry said.
"It was a huge crowd, probably for a combination of reasons: it was a nice day, and the day has a good reputation for putting on a nice day for the children.
"The rides the Caroline Bay Association put on were very popular, with huge queues. Parents appreciate having fun things they can do with their children and it doesn't cost."
The range of activities also included a YMCA obstacle course and an archery range.
