A book of positive stories of cancer survival has been launched in Pleasant Point.

Writer Karalyn Reid, in conjunction with the Cancer Society, launched the book, The Journey on Saturday at the St John Hall.

The anthology contains stories of cancer survival drawn from 240 submissions from cancer survivors all around New Zealand.

"We had about 80 people at the book launch with Mayor (Damon) Odey doing the honours, followed by a dinner and then a breakfast on Sunday," Ms Reid said.

"The book will be used as a resource for people with cancer looking for help and encouragement."

Two thousand copies of the book have been published, with 500 to be donated to the South Canterbury Cancer Society and the remainder will be sold at the Relay for Life next weekend.

After that the books will be available at the Timaru Christian Bookshop.
